I just wanted to tell you how much of an inspiration you have been to me in transitioning into veganism and sticking to it for good. I was vegetarian and really trying to go vegan and I stumbled across your speech and about 5 minutes into it I was bawling my eyes out. I just wanted to keep you posted on my activist endeavors. So far I have six people to my name that have seen the light and have become compassionate vegans. I’ve also encouraged a numerous amount of other individuals to give a vegan lifestyle a try and are now aware that it is completely possible to be healthy and happy as a vegan. One of the people who I personally inspired and helped become vegan is Roxy from RoxyRocksTV, a YouTuber with a subscriber base of over 600,000 followers. We met in Italy for an international musical instrument festival and then she asked me questions when she saw that I was able to successfully eat vegan meals everywhere that we went in Italy. She came home after the festival, got my books to read (the ones you endorsed), and then decided she was going to make the switch. After that, she asked me to partner up with her to help host a 30 day vegan challenge for her YouTube community. It was a blast to do and I was so happy to know that the effort I made with my own website was able to help bring veganism to the awareness of over 600,000 other people. I just wanted to share these updates with you so that you have a positive reminder that the work you do gives back exponentially. You activism is what inspired me to begin my own activism, and from there more and more people are being exposed to the vegan message one way or another.

I’m vegan because of you! I watched your speech about eight months ago when I was a vegetarian for my health. I remember going up to the fridge after watching your video and grabbing some cheese. I felt sick to my stomach while eating it. I couldn’t get the thought of those poor baby calves being sent to become veal and the enslavement of that cow for that cheese. You have changed my life forever. My only regret is not switching to a plant-based diet a long time ago. When our perception is conditioned from childhood, (as you put so well in your videos), it is easy to be ignorant, arrogant, and naive. It is hard to bring awareness and mindfulness to a lifestyle that has been blinded, and conditioned to believe the way we are living is not causing any harm. When I came across your video for the first time almost 6 months ago, I have never felt so much guilt and shame in my life. I spent the next 2 months severely depressed, as I realized a million lifetimes of nothing but goodwill towards all animals cannot undue the injustice that has been done already. What hurts the most is to know I played a part in that injustice. My husband was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis last year and spent almost a year in constant agony. He was on daily steroids and when it became too much for him he considered methotrexate to control his symptoms. His rheumatologist was concerned that the constant flare-ups might deform his joints. The day before we attended his appointment to go on this drug we stumbled across your fantastic speech and Forks Over Knives. We told the consultant at his appointment that we were going to try the plant-based diet before we tried the drugs. That was in June of this year. My husband hasn't had one twinge of pain in all this time, has lost 34 pounds and has an abundance of energy. I have lost 24 pounds and feel like a different person. Before we started our plant-based diet, we considered selling our home as my husband was struggling to work (he is a builder/plasterer). He couldn't even ride our jet ski any longer as he couldn't grip the handle bar. We have recently been to Cornwall where we had surfing lessons, rode our jet ski and rode our bicycles. I just wanted to share our story with you and say that you played a massive part in my husband’s recovery. We couldn't believe that when we attended a recent appointment the consultant said that my husband was in temporary remission and that the condition would no doubt flare up again and that she still recommended the drug, Methotrexate! We are amazed by peoples’ ignorance and negativity towards us, especially our friends and family.

I'm a teacher for a public school board in Ontario and we have an anti-bullying week every November. This year it will run from Nov. 20 to 26. Our school goes all out for this campaign and has the students make anti-bullying posters, etc. And every Wednesday our school serves up pepperoni and cheese pizzas as a fundraiser for school activities. I'd like to write an open letter on my school's online discussion forum pointing out the hypocrisy of telling students that bullying is wrong and then condoning it for lunch every Wednesday. I was just wondering if you had a few points I could make in my letter or if you could refer me to an essay or video you've already done on this topic. I want to get the other staff members at my school to realize how hypocritical they are being. I went vegan because of you!

Your speech, along with a few other films, made me vegan overnight, and I can't thank you enough. I only wish I'd seen those things sooner because my life has changed since and all I want to do now is help the animals. I'm currently studying for my masters in filmmaking at university in the UK. I'm wanting to make a vegan and ethical-living documentary for my final piece (either feature length or a series of episodes). You have completely changed the moral and ethical parts of my life. Thank you so much! I am sorry that I used to be so blind. I have been eating flesh of dismembered creatures for nearly 18 years of my life and have never stopped to think what the fuck I was putting into my mouth. I live in Russia, where cows are the least respected "category" of animals that humans abuse. Since birth I was taught that animals were so glad being massacred for our needs so I ate as many burgers, steaks and cut-off chicken legs that my ballet teacher once said, "Why are you so fucking fat? You’re seven years old but you weigh as much as a 14 year old. Leave my school!" Since then, I’ve always asked a pretty wise rhetorical question: "Why am I so fat? Something is certainly not right." But weight is no longer a problem for me because after changing my eating habits, I am built like a model.

I just want to thank you for opening my eyes after almost 40 years on this earth! I wish someone would have adjusted my vision years ago. Not only is the way we treat animals vulgar and beyond cruel, but my health issues could have been nonexistent. Thank goodness they are resolved now. If this information was shared in schools when I was coming up, I feel like life could have been completely different for me and many others. I grew up on government cheese, whole milk, fried chicken , pork sausage, fish Fridays and pot roast with potatoes. I never really ate eggs plain but they were in my food. But now you are my information highway to a better way of living with a clean body and a clean conscience on a daily basis. Honestly, some people think I must want to be white because I don't indulge in bacon, fried chicken and other "soul food" which is fucking ridiculous! I don’t want to live at the expense of someone else's life or body.

I just gave a speech today and it was an overwhelming success. Even though it was originally supposed to be short, it lasted about 20 minutes, followed by hefty amounts of Q&A. I think my teacher just let me continue because she knew how much time I put into it. Taking your advice, I almost exclusively covered ethics, but I did add in a little about health, the environment, and good tasting vegan foods at the end. The reaction I got from people was amazing. Already I have multiple people asking me for these recipes, and to upload the speech so they can share it. My teacher was awesome and allowed me to show a graphic video, too. It’s just great to finally start making a difference in other peoples’ lives, and not just my own.

I am a senior student at a Secondary School in Ontario. As the founder of our school’s first animal rights movement group, I have been granted a one hour lecture period to speak to students on animal rights in a professional setting. I am currently in the process of creating a thorough research report for the lecture and since some of your videos will be used I thought it appropriate to contact you for feedback or comments. The community of St. Thomas Aquinas is highly involved in social justice movements both local and global however we lack the education and leaders to create events on animal rights. Our school struggles with the atrocities of animal dissections in classrooms, lack of vegan options to students and overall lack of awareness on animal rights and issues within our own communities. As a highly involved member of Toronto’s animal rights movements, I believe this lecture is crucial for the education of students and the beginning of change within a school of over two thousands young minds. This year marks the creation of the school’s first animal rights group whose goal is to be the guide towards creating a change. The success of the group’s campaigns lies in the education of students. Your lectures, actions and views on veganism led me and many others across the world to choose veganism.

Thank you for opening my eyes and clearing the fog on my old lifestyle. Like most people, I wasn’t raised vegan. I used to work in luxury fashion, and sold furs and other animal skins products. I cannot bear the thought that every bite of those products is built on cruelty so I’ve become vegan.
